Our mission is providing laundry assistance to those in need to restore dignity, respect, and self-esteem.
We see the Laundromat as a place where strangers become friends, people are known by name, and the worth and dignity of every human being is acknowledged and celebrated.
Laundry Love Fort Worth started as an outreach ministry of St. Christopher Episcopal Church of Fort Worth, Texas. This ministry came out with the idea for community service to ease the burden of laundry care for struggling families. Most of us take laundry for granted as it may seem trivial or tedious. For others, affording laundry highlights a privilege, and clean clothes make a world of difference for adults seeking employment and kids attending school.
At the start, we hosted free laundry events the third Saturday of each month. We provide the quarters, detergent and dryer sheets for each family in need. Our events are more than just doing laundry, we provide a light meal, fun activities for the kids and friendly conversations while the laundry tumbles.
When COVID-19 hit, we continued to serve the community with virtual events and dropping off supplies from a distance.
Now, as the world opens, we are holding events again! Laundry Love is constantly looking to expand services to more people & volunteers to support our operations.
Laundry Love provides the following services at our event:
1. Laundry fees: up to 3 loads per individual and 6 loads per household. Washer & dryer fees.
2. Laundry supplies: detergent (preferably environmental-friendly type), softener, dryer sheets,...
3. Light snack station: serving chips, fruit, drinks, and crowd-favorite hot dogs!
4. Kids Club: parents can drop their children off for fun and interactive activities so they can focus on laundry
5. Community conversations: care for listening ears? Our friendly volunteers are here to catch up on the community!
We paused in-person event for roughly two years because of the pandemic. During this period, we continued to care for the community by dropping off laundry cards and supplies.
We have resumed operations since the end of 2021, and are looking to expand the base to serve more people.
Laundry Love Fort Worth is a proud partner with Laundry Love national organization.
The story of Laundry Love began when T-Bone (Eric), a homeless gentleman living in Ventura, California, was asked a question: "How can we come alongside your life in a meaningful way?" His response was honest and practical. “If I had clean clothes I think people would treat me like a human being.” The Laundry Love initiative started in 2003 after that conversation.
Since then, Laundry Love has helped hundreds of local initiatives start their own Laundry Love (LLFW being one of them!) and maintain operations by fundraising.
